I offer apprenticeships for young potters to gain experience of working in a studio environment. Training is given in all aspects of making, decoration, glazing, firing etc. In addition, experience is gained in the business of how to make a living from ceramics. The apprentice will learn about publicity and marketing.
Through selling direct to the public from the showroom and at events, they will gain confidence in dealing with customers. Time is given for the apprentice to develop their own work, which can be sold in the showroom. We often work towards a joint exhibition towards the end of the period of apprenticeship.
Studio visits can be arranged to some of the many potters living in this area, plus short periods of work experience with other potters where appropriate.
The apprentice must have a passion and commitment to ceramics and some making skills.
The apprenticeships are usually for a period of 1 year or longer, though shorter periods may be considered if the apprentice already has good making skills.
Food and accommodation are offered free of charge, in recognition of the help with production in the workshop. If you are interested in becoming an apprentice, please email me with a CV.
